We operate from the philosophy that clinicians can thrive when they are

independent but not alone.

The clinicians working in Heartwood believe independence to be crucial for fostering satisfaction and longevity, and that when independent autonomy is paired with a supportive community, one can feel free and supported to flourish in their careers.

We recognize that each clinician carries their own unique personal and professional experiences and therefore have their own preferences for how they want to build and manage a private practice. Examples of independent choice for your practice include:

  • when and how many hours you work

  • the number and types of referrals you want to take on

  • how much you want to charge for your services

  • which insurances you want to panel with or if you want to build a private pay practice

  • the electronic medical record system that best suits your practice’s needs

  • the structure of your practice’s business (e.g., sole proprietor, LLC, S-Corp)

In Heartwood, each clinician owns their own independent mental health practice, meaning our schedules, caseloads, and specialties vary. Because we are not a group practice, you are your own boss and can make the decisions that best help you nurture your professional identity and promote your personal well-being.

We understand that the biggest barrier clinicians face in private practice is a sense of isolation from colleagues which can lead to burnout and dissatisfaction, and can put clinicians at a greater risk of making ethical and clinical errors.

The purpose of Heartwood is to connect clinicians together in a shared space, so you don’t have to choose between autonomy and connection.

We strive to create a collaborative and inviting atmosphere that provides professional freedom along with a community of other clinicians to consult with and connect to.



Heartwood Associates, LLC takes pride in the lovingly designed office space, which has been created to provide a warm, yet modern environment that feels therapeutic without feeling stuffy or boring. We offer a spacious waiting room and large personal offices with natural sunlight, a shared kitchen with modern amenities, and a group therapy room. Rent and all utilities, including electric, internet, HIPAA-compliant phone and e-fax systems, maintenance, and a webpage for your practice, are included in a monthly fee. We also have a consultation group that meets regularly to discuss cases and the logistics of running a private practice; we also serve as a referral network to each other.

We also recognize the mental effort and energy it takes to help clients heal. For those just starting a private practice, we know the additional work and time it takes to get things off the ground so you can focus on helping others. We are closely connected to the constant changing demands of modern practice building and aspire to mentor and support other clinicians who want to do the same. We believe that with the right information and enough support, one can enjoy the process of building their own practice and reap the benefits of ownership.
